BOSTON – Thursday, June 18, 2009 – Governor Patrick today announced the nomination of Margaret R. Guzman to the Dudley District Court, Leilah A. Keamy to the Worcester Probate and Family Court, and Angel Kelley Brown to the Brockton District Court.

Margaret R. Guzman built her career as a top-notch trial attorney during her 13 years as a Public Defender for CPCS in Worcester. In 2005, Guzman formed her own general private practice, where she focuses on criminal defense but also represents clients in civil matters such as personal injury, administrative appeals and general civil litigation. She also served as the Supervising Attorney for the Worcester County Bar Advocate Program. Active in her Worcester community and in the Bar, Guzman is a Board Member and Past President of Dismas House (Worcester). A graduate of Clark University and Boston University School of Law, Guzman resides in Worcester where she was born and raised. She is slated to fill the vacancy on the Dudley District Court created by the retirement of the Honorable Paul V. Mullaney.
The Honorable Leilah A. Keamy has served the Commonwealth as an Associate Justice of the Middlesex Probate and Family Court since 2002. Prior to her appointment to the bench, she spent two decades as an Associate and then Partner at White, Inker, Aronson where she specialized in family law litigation in the courts of Central and Eastern Massachusetts. Keamy, who resides in Northborough with her husband of 22 years and their three children, holds degrees from Wheaton College (B.A.), University of Massachusetts, Lowell (M.B.A.), and Suffolk University Law School (J.D.). She is slated to fill the vacancy on the Worcester Probate and Family Court created by the retirement of the Honorable Joseph L. Hart, Jr.
Angel Kelley Brown is an accomplished civil and criminal litigator who currently serves as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in Boston. She began her legal career as a Staff Attorney with New York Legal Aid Society’s Juvenile Rights Division and then joined the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, where she served as in-house counsel, then Senior Trial Attorney and ultimately as Assistant Chief of the New York Litigation Division. Over the course of her years with the Authority, Kelley Brown was deeply involved in litigating a variety of claims, including general torts, civil rights violations, and complex litigation involving the 1993 World Trade Center Bombing and the 9/11 attacks. In 2005, Kelley Brown became a Supervising Attorney and Clinical Instructor at Harvard Law School before joining the U.S. Attorney’s Office. Kelley Brown is a graduate of Colgate University (B.A.), Temple University School of Law (LL.M. in Trial Advocacy), and Georgetown University School of Law (J.D.), and is a resident of Brockton. She is slated to fill the vacancy on the Brockton District Court created by the retirement of the Honorable David G. Nagle, Jr.
