Cambridge, MA — The American Repertory Theatre/Moscow Art Theatre School institute for Advanced Theatre Training at Harvard University presents Aloha, Say the Pretty Girls, by Naomi Iizuka, directed by Lindsay Albaugh. Performance dates and times are February 6, 7, 8 and February 12, 13, 14, 2009 at 7:30 pm at the A.R.T.’s Zero Arrow Theatre, Corner of Arrow Street and Mass Ave., Harvard Square.
Winner of the prestigious 1999 Whiting Writers’ Award, Aloha, Say The Pretty Girls by Naomi Iizuka is a hillarious romp that follows young Generation X-ers in their quest for love and identity. Strangers, friends, lovers and acquaintances travel the globe from Alaska to Hawaii and from New York City to Inner Borneo in this wild comedy. A woman moves to Alaska after being dumped by her boyfriend. A writer struggles to write the great American Novel. A businessman misses his flight and ends up on the beaches of Hawaii. Oh yeah, and there’s a hula dancer, an Incan mummy, a man that becomes a Komodo dragon and a dog that becomes a man.
Lindsay Allbaugh is the Producing Director of the Elephant Theatre Company. She has worked at Steppenwolf Theatre in Chicago, and currently assists the Artistic Director of Center Theatre Group (Taper/Ahmanson/Douglas Theatres. Previously she directed Gray City by Keith Huff and Kate Crackernuts by Sheila Callaghan at the A.R.T. Institute. For the Elephant, Lindsay has directed Never Tell by James Christy (LA Weekly Critic’s Pick, LA Times recommended), Peek by Danny McCoy, produced and directed 365 Days/Plays by Suzan Lori Parks, produced In Arabia We’d All Be Kings and Los Muertos, among others. Her directing credits include The House of Jones / Blackbird / The View From Here in 365 Days/Plays, Kate Crackernuts, Fish out of Water, Never Tell, The Big Funk, Jack or the Submission, Polaroid Stories, The Shape of Things, The Cherry Orchard (asst. director), American Dead (asst. Director), and In The Blood (asst. Director).
