East Boston Hosts City Council Candidates Forum

As part of ongoing efforts to ensure East Boston residents come out to vote in the upcoming municipal elections on November 8th, a coalition of community organizations is hosting the Eastie Votes Candidates Forum on Wednesday November 2nd from 6-8pm at the Maverick Landing Community Center, 31 Liverpool Street.

Gloribell Mota, Lead Organizer for Neighbors United for East Boston (NUBE) said that «For the past three months we have communicated with hundreds of voters to ensure Eastie comes out to vote on November 8th. This Candidates Forum is an extension of our efforts to educate, inform and mobilize Eastie voters.»

The seven City Council candidates will be asked questions of interest to East Boston residents related to youth job opportunities, environmental justice, immigration, education and workersÂ’ rights. Although electoral participation in East Boston has been increasing in the last few years, it is important for Eastie voters to demonstrate to elected officials they care about participating in each election and that voters want to hear directly from each candidate.

The sponsoring organizations of this forum include NUBE, East Boston Ecumenical Community Council, Chelsea Creek Action Group, Neighborhood of Affordable Housing, SEIU Local 615, Maverick Landing Community Services, Maverick Tenant Organization, MassVote and ¿Oíste? The Latino Civic Education Initiative.

The forum is open to all East Boston residents and simultaneous translation from English to Spanish will be available. For more information, call NUBE at 617-981-4010.
