In June 2009 El Planeta Newspaper invited its readers to pick their favorite businesses, people, and places around Boston. Readers were asked to choose their «Best» with regards to Food and Drink, Arts and Entertainment, Shopping and Services, and City Life. These four topics were broken down into 43 categories ranging from Best Mexican Restaurant to Best Local DJ. On August 7, 2009 – after two months and 7,000 votes – the patiently awaited first ever «Best of El Planeta» edition was published.
Rafael Ulloa, editor of TuBoston.com, the most popular Hispanic-targeted bilingual website in the Boston area and online home to El Planeta, reflects on the poll’s first year; «Our website for The Best received thousands of visits during the campaign last year, everyone wanted to contribute their vote and we learned a lot with the write-in option. We believe that people have the right to choose their best even if it is not among the nominees».
Now, one year later, The Best of El Planeta poll is back! The four main topics from 2009 were broken down even further: This year the readers choose their 62 Bests and vote in new categories such as Best Latino TV Show, Best Beach, and Best Summer Beer.
