Staples Champions Cup’s Bjorn Borg, John McEnroe and Jim Courier Come Up Aces at Tenacity’s «Celebrity Players

WHO: 11-time Grand Slam singles champion Bjorn Borg; seven-time Grand Slam singles champions John McEnroe and Mats Wilander; four-time Grand Slam singles champion Jim Courier; 2003 Wimbledon finalist and «Age of Love» reality TV star Mark Philippoussis; 1986 French Open runner-up Mikael Pernfors; 1983 Italian Open winner Jimmy Arias; 1992 Olympic silver medalist Wayne Ferreira; Hampshire House’s Tom and Janet Kershaw; Tenacity President/Founder Ned Eames and television star Tom Babson.

WHAT: A star-studded Celebrity Players Reception featuring some of the greatest names in tennis at Cheers Boston at the Hampshire House. Instead of Cliff and Norm, guests will have the opportunity to raise a glass with John and Bjrn. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to mix and mingle with these sports legends and local celebrities.

All proceeds benefit Tenacity, a premier youth development program in Boston and the official charity partner of the Staples Champions Cup. Tenacity offers the leading and largest sports-based after-school and summer programs in Boston that help urban youth achieve excellence in the classroom by imparting life skills and promoting character development

The All-Star tennis lineup will be in Boston to compete in the Staples Champions Cup, a single-elimination tournament, Thursday, April 29 through Sunday, May 2, 2010 at Boston University’s Agganis Arena.

ABOUT TENACITY

Tenacity is one of the premier youth development programs in the City of Boston offering both after-school and summer programming that combines tennis, literacy and life skills to help youth develop the skills and self-confidence they need to succeed in life. Tenacity’s After-School Excellence Program currently partners with seven middle schools in Boston to provide intensive after-school services for 200 students. The Summer Tennis & Reading Program operates at 30 neighborhood sites throughout the city and more than 4,500 Boston youth participate.
