Boston, MA – Villa Victoria Center for the Arts, in collaboration with the consulate of Ecuador in Boston and the Association of Ecuadorians in New England (A.E.N.I.) presents Noche Ecuatoriana, a celebration of the rich and diverse culture of Ecuador, as part of its celebrated performance series on Friday May 14, 8:00 pm, at Villa Victoria Center for the Arts, 85 West Newton Street in Boston’s South End.
The heartfelt melancholy of Pasillo, the celebratory drive of Churay, the earthy power of Yumbo and the jovial Bomba are some of the many musical traditions audiences will experience in this one-of-a-kind performance. Dancers from Yarina will also offer dance performances complementing selected pieces from the musical repertoire.
Despite a growing Ecuadorian community in the New England region, much remains unknown about this South American country. Noche Ecuatoriana opens a window to view the rich cultural life of Ecuador through music and dance. This event will feature an array of musicians, including the Boston premiere of acclaimed singer Mariela Condo and the leading Ecuadorian music and dance troupe Yarina.
In addition to this general public performance, selected artists participating in Noche Ecuatoriana will offer a matinee performance for 350 children from South End neighborhood schools.
