The Art of Discovery & Boston Book Art exhibit features the black & white photographic work of EVA TIMOTHY and 20 Boston area book artists. Eva Timothy’s photo essay Lost in Learning: The Art of Discovery is comprised of 23 images from her recently published, critically acclaimed, award winning book of the same title. Timothy has turned her lens on the relics of centuries past and created a portrait of the agents of learning during the age of discovery.

The sfumato technique photographs of objects like maps, globes, scientific optics, drawings, and leather bound notebooks from collections at Harvard, Oxford, and DaVinci’s workshop offer the viewer a glimpse into the world of the great explorers, seekers, artists, and scientists like Galileo, Handel, Columbus, and Sir Isaac Newton who have left us with a lasting legacy of learning.

Boston Book Art showcases the diverse work of 20 Boston area book artists. The display of book art ranging from traditional bound examples to alternatively printed and presented works underscores the wealth of nationally recognized one-of-a-kind artist book talent in the region including: Peter Madden, Laura Blacklow, Stephanie Stigliano, Annie Silverman, James Reid-Cunningham, Laura Davidson, Bill Burke, Laurie Alpert, Jeffrey Altepeter and others. This exhibit supports the newly created U.S. Congressional National Arts In Education Week, Sept. 12 – 18 and was curated by Laura Montgomery, BHCC Art Gallery Director.
