Women of ALPFA hosted Latina Business Summit on May 15th

By Rossemary Calderon

The Women of ALPFA hosted another successful Latina Summit on Friday, May 15, 2009 in partnership with the Center for Women & Enterprise and Sanchez & Santiago, CPAs at the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston.  The conference began with welcoming remarks by two of ALPFA’s exceptional leaders, Paul Francisco and Marcel Quiroga.  The key note speaker, Rosalin Acosta, candidly spoke about her life struggles and the sacrifices made to ensure her family received only the best – a concept she believes all Latinas and Latinos should aspire to.  Maria Hinojosa, a fantastic journalist, received the Excellence in Contribution to the Latino Community award and inspired the crowd with her passion for immigration rights.

ALPFA also showcased it’s first ever :30 Public Service Announcement which elaborated on joining us at the 2009 National Convention in Boston. This PSA was produced with our media partner, Telemundo Boston.  There were four concurrent breakout sessions for those on the corporate or entrepreneur tracks.  Each track featured a panel of intelligent and well spoken professionals who touched on current issues and their past experiences.  After the sessions, attendees also had the opportunity to network with fellow students and professionals – a portion of the event we always look forward to as ALPFA members!
