TO CELEBRATE NATIONAL OPERA WEEK,
OPERA BOSTON PRESENTS FREE OPERA BOSTON UNDERGROUND
AT THE LIZARD LOUNGE
(BOSTON–Oct. 22, 2009) Opera Boston celebrates National Opera Week (Nov. 13–22) along
with opera companies all over the country, by presenting a FREE installment of the popular
Opera Boston Underground cabaret series on Wednesday, Nov. 18, 2009. This special National
Opera Week program is called «Operatic Acrobatics: Opera Without a Net», will be presented at
the intimate 125-seat Lizard Lounge (1667 Massachusetts Ave., Cambridge). This FREE show is
21 , and reservations are not accepted. Doors open at 7 p.m., and the 45-minute show starts at
7:30.
Ten young Opera Boston singers, including Opera Boston Underground crowd favorites Sol Kim
Bentley, Brenna Wells and Julia Mintzer, will perform difficult, high-wire repertoire from the
operatic canon, complete with death-defying feats. According to director Adrienne Boris, «We’re
not shying away from doing real opera in a bar setting. These singers have big voices and are in
total technical command of some really exciting material».
Opera Boston Underground will be hosted by Opera Boston Music Director Gil Rose.
Opera Boston seeks to extend its reach by providing non-traditional venues for opera
performance. Not only will it demystify opera for new audience, but it also gives young Opera
Boston singers the chance to try out different repertoire in a fun, informal setting.
