Students Answer Call for Service and «Paint for Music» at Newly Renovated Community Music Studio in Mission Hill

Sociedad Latina, a non-profit, community-based organization serving youth and their families in the Mission Hill neighborhood and the Greater Boston Area, has remodeled their music facility after being awarded a Berklee Music & Youth Initiative grant. As a result of this funding from the neighborhood-based music education program, the center will now offer a recording studio, performance area, ensemble space and instruction from college students right in the community.  Berklee’s Public Service Through Music program is helping Sociedad Latina prepare the new music studio for the upcoming community grand opening of their Mission Hill facility.

Berklee alumnus Hernando Buitrago is the Music and Creative Arts Director at Sociedad Latina and he works with student employees from the college who help teach music to kids throughout the year.  For this special event Berklee is assembling 20 students and staff members to «Paint for Music.»

When the day’s work is complete, the celebration begins with a jam session where Berklee students will perform with youth from Sociedad Latina. Any jammin’ that takes place on Saturday will be powered by new amplifiers and other equipment donated by Berklee’s Office of Community and Governmental Affairs a few weeks ago as part of its neighborhood-based music education service programs.
