This is the Sound of Harmony
The Boston Children’s Chorus is screening a preview of its documentary filmed during an educational exchange trip to Jordan in July. Invited by King Abdullah II, 56 singers ages 11-18 from communities across the commonwealth spent two weeks as cultural ambassadors in the Middle East. The film takes viewers through the country of Jordan, from Amman to Petra to the Dead Sea, through the eyes of the Boston-area youths, conveying their sense of wonder in these new people, new experiences and a new enlightenment about the world around them.
The preview of the film will be followed by a question-and-answer session with filmmaker Olivia Spalletta, singers and chorus leadership.
The new CD, «This is the Sound of Harmony,» is the group’s second. It aims to tell a story and teach lessons on building community and breaking down barriers – reaching a harmonious state. Each piece teaches us to celebrate who we are, to search for equality, and finally deepen our understanding of others.
A la Carte
All nine choirs of the Boston Children’s Chorus take part in this season opener that will include something for everyone. More than 300 voices will fill Converse Hall with a musical smorgasbord ranging from Renaissance to Ragtime.
BCC is an accomplished children’s singing group with nine choirs and nearly 300 singers ranging in age from 7 to 18 years old. Led by Artistic Director Anthony Trecek-King and Assistant Artistic Director Michele Adams, they seek to harness the power and joy of music as a catalyst to unite our diverse communities and inspire social change. The group has performed at the Democratic National Convention, Gov. Deval Patrick’s Inauguration, with the Boston Pops; and has toured Jordan, Mexico, Japan, Chicago, New York and Oregon.
About Boston Children’s Chorus
The Boston Children’s Chorus harnesses the power and joy of music to unite our city’s diverse communities and inspire social change. Our singers transcend social barriers in a celebration of shared humanity and love of music. Through intensive choral training and high-profile public performance experience (locally, throughout the U.S. and around the world), they learn discipline, develop leadership skills, and proudly represent the city of Boston as ambassadors of harmony.
