MIAMI – Telemundo, a leading producer of innovative and high-quality content for Hispanics in the U.S., announced its NTI results for the month of August 2008. According to Nielsen Media Research data, Telemundo averaged 600,000 Adults 18-49 with a 20% share of the viewers watching the three major Spanish-language broadcast networks in Monday through Friday prime, increasing 8% in delivery (555,000) compared to last year and the only Spanish-language network to gain double-digit growth compared to last month, 14% (526,000). This delivery makes August 2008 the strongest August Telemundo performance in NTI history.
Fueling the primetime growth, Dona Barbara, replacing the hit novela Victoria, averaged 667,000 Adults 18-49 premiere-to-date after four weeks on the air at 9 pm.
At 10pm, Sin Senos No Hay Paraiso has become Telemundo’s highest-rated novela in NTI, averaging 884,000 Adults 18-49 in August 2008, up 11% from July 2008 (796,000) and 20% vs. its June 2008 premiere month (735,000). In the last week of August, Sin Senos delivered its best performance for a weekly average of 949,000 Adults 18-49 with a 31% share of Spanish. Among the younger 18-34 demo, the novela averaged 545,000 in August, beating original cable dramas such as: Army Wives (391,000), Saving Grace (371,000), The Closer (337,000), Mad Men (258,000) and The Cleaner (250,000).
The Rumbo Al Mundial franchise adds to the Telemundo success story in August with the Mexico vs. Honduras match on August 20, 2008. The game averaged over two million Adults 18-49, making it the highest game ever and more impressively, the highest telecast ever in NTI history and second highest overall among Persons 2 with 2.8 million viewers.
Beating the summer doldrums, Telemundo’s Monday through Sunday prime averaged 541,000 Adults 18-49 with a 21% share in August 2008, growing 9% over last year (496,000) and continues to be fastest growing major Spanish-language broadcast networks this TV season for Monday-Sunday 7-11pm in Adults 18-49 up 5% (06-07 season-to-date vs. 07-08 impressions comparison).
