BOSTON, MA- The pulsating rhythm of Salsa music drew an energetic crowd of couples and individuals of all ages to the Hatch Shell Thursday evening. The Esplanade Association (TEA), a non-profit organization working to restore and enhance Boston’s historic Esplanade, and World Rhythms™ Dance & Fitness, a professional dance company, kicked off «Dancing Under the Stars,» a free dance program this summer on the Esplanade in front of the DCR Hatch Shell. The venue is provided by the Department of Conservation and Recreation and their Esplanade staff.

Two talented and charismatic Salsa dance instructors, Burju & Victor (HowYouMove.com), guided a group of beginners through basic Salsa dance steps before turning up the volume and the pace. As the beginners gained confidence in their dance moves, they were joined by more experienced dancers for what turned out to be an exhilarating evening of dancing fun. «My wife and I attended Dancing Under the Stars last night and thoroughly enjoyed the Salsa lessons. This was a real treat for us–we love to dance, but we’re not trained and lessons are too expensive,» one dancer wrote in an email to TEA the following day. Many people expressed their appreciation for the free and fun activity and said they couldn’t wait to come back for the following week’s free lesson and open dance.

«The evening was special and exciting in many ways,» stated Sylvia Salas, TEA’s Executive Director. «We had two extraordinary dance instructors, dance enthusiasts of varying skills and ages – children, college students, young professionals and senior citizens – all dancing together in the park, and, to top off the night, we had beautiful weather.»

Each Thursday evening during the summer, professional dance instructors will introduce a different style of dance. The evening will begin at 6:00 p.m. with one hour of free dance instruction followed by an hour of open dance ending at 8:00 p.m. Plus, World Rhythms™ Dance & Fitness is handing out gift cards for group and/or private dance instruction at their studio in Somerville.

«Dancing Under the Stars» is scheduled as follows:
July 23, Swing
July 30, Ballroom
August 6, Bollywood
August 13, Brazilian Samba
August 20, Tango.
