New England Revolution adds African defender

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – The New England Revolution announced today that the club has signed Emmanuel Osei, a defender from Ghana, to a Major League Soccer contract to play for the Revs. Per MLS and club policy, terms of the deal were not released. He will join the team pending the receipt of his International Transfer Certificate. Once added to the roster, Osei will occupy an international roster slot.

Osei, 26, will join the Revolution from Liberty Professionals in Ghana’s top professional league. He has previously played with ASV Cham (Germany) and AS Livorno (Italy), as well as FC Timisoara (Romania). He began his career with Ghana’s Hearts of Oak in 2002.

Osei was a member of Ghana’s 2004 Olympic Team, and has been capped by Ghana’s senior national team.

«We are pleased to add Emmanuel to the team,» Revolution Vice President Michael Burns said. «He is an experienced central defender who can also play in the midfield, and who’ll give us added defensive options.»

The Revolution opens its 2009 home schedule this Saturday, April 4, when the team hosts FC Dallas at 7:30 p.m. at Gillette Stadium. TV38 will televise the game live, while WRKO 680 AM will also have the call of the game. First Kick four-packs, which include a commemorative First Kick scarf, are available at revolutionsoccer.net or by calling 1-877-GET-REVS.
