Mayor Menino, Health Commission Sponsor Free Health Screenings to Kick Off Heart Healthy Month

On Friday, Mayor Thomas M. Menino and the Boston Public Health Commission will join the American Heart Association for Go Red for Women Day, a national campaign to wipe out heart disease among women.  The event marks the start of Heart Healthy Month in February. The city is offering two free health screenings to test blood pressure, cholesterol, and body mass index. Residents are being encouraged to wear red to show solidarity with the AHA’s fight against heart disease, which is the number 1 killer of women over the age of 20.
