Local member organizations of NALACC visit the MA congressional delegation

Local member organizations of The National Alliance of Latin American and Caribbean Communities (NALACC) visit the Massachusetts congressional delegation to advocate for a substantial change in U.S. immigration policy. «We are visiting our elected officials and letting them know that we continue working for a humane and just immigration reform. Last week we met with Senator Kennedy’s office and this week we are going to continue the visits to other members of the Massachusetts congressional delegation. This country needs to recognize that the immigrants of today represent an invaluable asset for the well-being and progress of the United States of America,» declared Patricia Sobalvarro, Executive Director of Agencia ALPHA.

«We want to be politically active and participate in the decision making process that directly affects our destiny as immigrants. President Obama should work with Congress to reform the US immigration system and grant people who are residing in the U.S. without the proper authorization, the opportunity to become legal permanent residents. As active members of NALACC, we also continue incorporating transnational advocacy as an important component of our work.  We would like to see a fundamental change in the social and economic standards of living in our countries of origin, through better U.S. economic and foreign policies,» said Patricia Montes, Executive Director of Centro Presente.

«We hope that those in charge of reforming public policy are going to make the right decision and take immediate action approving a just immigration reform that respects the fundamentals human rights of immigrant communities,» said Antonio Amaya, Executive Director of La Comunidad. «We are also demanding that the current administration stop all actions targeting the detention and removal of undocumented, Latino immigrants, and the collaboration agreements between city and state law enforcement agencies and ICE.»
