According to the Boston Globe, around 5:30 a.m several manhole fires were declared from the Theater District to the Back Bay. The fires left many schools (Josiah Quincy, Boston Renaissance Charter Public Schools), businesses (Registry of motor vehicles) and colleges (Emerson) with out electricity. Until the problem was found around 11:00am: a subterranean cable failed and sparked causing the fires underground. The cable will have to be replaced, however, it will not have an impact on electricity supply.
