Casa de la Cultura/Center for Latino Arts orgullosamente presenta Viajes, una exhibición fotográfica de el artista David E. Páez, residente de Boston.
La apertura de la exhibición comenzará con una recepción el jueves, 15 de Enero de 6 a 9 pm. Este evento es gratis y abierto al público. Refrigerios serán servidos.
Con este trabajo fotográfico, David Páez capta la belleza y la relevancia de los varios grupos étnicos encontrados durantes sus viajes a Bolivia, Chile, Argentina y Perú. En contraste a las tomas en los países Sur Americanos, las imágenes tomadas en el Festival anual de La Calle San Sebastián, en San Juan, Puerto Rico son un documental que refleja el resplandor y la vitalidad de la cultura puertorriqueña y la constancia de las tradiciones latinas. En español, «viajes» es otra palabra para travesías, la cual no solo sirve para indicar los viajes del artista sino también las travesías que las tradiciones de la cultura han hecho durante varios siglos. Las imágenes de Páez resaltan la armonía y el contraste de las tradiciones latinas pasadas y presentes.
Páez con el objetivo de obtener en sus tomas el ambiente del festival de San Juan, utilizo un obturador de baja velocidad para su lente y luz natural para captar el movimiento animado de la multitud nocturna. Fascinado por sus viajes por Sur América, el artista documentó extraordinarias culturas autóctonas en los Andes y hermosos paisajes cubiertos de nieve a través del continente.
Las imágenes de gente vestida en magníficos tejidos conservando las antiguas tradiciones resaltan la amplia y diversa variedad de costumbres hispanas en toda Latino América y el rol de la tradición en la cultura global contemporánea.

Casa de la Cultura/Center for Latino Arts is pleased to present Viajes, an exhibition of photographic works by Boston-based artist David E. Páez.
The exhibition will begin with an Opening Reception on Thursday, January 15, from 6 to 9 pm. This event is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served.
With these photographic works, David Páez captures the beauty and cultural relevance of several ethnic groups found on his journeys to Bolivia, Chile, Argentina and Peru. Opposite these photos are documented shots of joyful celebrants at San Juan, Puerto Rico’s annual Festival de La Calle San Sebastián, which reflect both the brilliance and vivacity of Puerto Rican culture and the persistence of Latin traditions. The term ‘viajes’, which is Spanish for ‘voyages’, is not only indicative of the artist’s Latin American trek but also the journey that Latin American and Latino cultural traditions have made over the last several hundred years. Paez’s images illuminate the harmony and contrast of past and present Latino practices.
In order to capture the mood of San Juan’s festival, Páez used a slow shutter speed and natural light to capture the exciting movement of the night crowd. Captivated by his travels through South America, the artist documented extraordinary indigenous cultures in the Andes Mountains and gorgeous snowy landscapes throughout the continent. Images of people clothed in rich textiles and sustained by ancient traditions highlight the wildly diverse assortment of Hispanic customs across Latin America and the role of tradition in contemporary global culture.
