Boston Music Award Winners and «The Best of El Planeta 2009» Winners, Sol y Canto, along with special guest singers Alisa and Sonia Amador, twin daughters of founders Rosi and Brian Amador, take the stage for Sol y Canto’s 15th Anniversary celebration and for Rosi and Brian Amador’s 25th anniversary as pan-Latin music ambassadors touring the U.S. and abroad.
As part of the new green Cambridge Public Library’s Main Branch inaugural season, this special celebration will feature songs from their most recent critically acclaimed CD for adults, Cada Día un Regalo, selections from their bilingual Parents’ Choice Award-winning CD, El Doble de Amigos/Twice as Many Friends, and the unveiling of a new song from «SABOR Y MEMORIA (Flavor and Memory): A Musical Feast in Seven Courses», the group’s suite-in-progress about Latin food, identity, memory, immigration, slow food and hunger. The suite was composed this past winter by guitarist/musical director Brian Amador, during a fellowship at the MacDowell Artist Colony in Peterborough, NH for Sol y Canto and string quartet, and begins touring nationally in February 2010.

Special Guest Fernando Dangond Castro, acclaimed Colombian composer of the «Vallenato,» genre a popular rhythm from his native country, will join Sol y Canto on the accordion as Sol y Canto performs one of his original award-winning compositions, «Nació mi Poesía» (My Poetry is Born), which Sol y Canto recorded with him on their 1994 debut album, «Sancocho». Dangond Castro’s compositions have been recorded by some of Colombia’s foremost artists of vallenato including the renowned Binomio de Oro, among others. Dr. Dangond Castro lives in the Boston area with his family and is a neurologist.
The heart and soul of Sol y Canto’s music is its lush vocal harmonies, sumptuous Spanish guitar and a combination of Latin rhythms and beautiful ballads performed with excitement and enthusiasm.
