Originally from El Salvador, Lucy Pineda migrated to Boston in 1986, where she became a leader and social advocate for the immigrant community. In 1992, she started working for Centro Presente and also played a major role in the formation of C.O.S.M.A. a Salvadoran committee, where she worked for maintaining strong cultural values alive. In 2002, Lucy founded LUMA, an organization that focuses not only in fighting for immigrant rights, but also providing them with education development programs, not only locally but also internationally. She has funded international programs, recreational centers and non profits organizations, where workshops are held in hopes to educate the communities on the major risks faced when crossing the border. She is also the founder of the Multicultural Festival in Everett, that celebrated its 7th edition last August.
Originaria de El Salvador, Lucy Pineda emigró a Boston en 1986, donde se convirtió en líder y defensora social de la comunidad inmigrante. En 1992, comenzó a trabajar como voluntaria en organizaciones pro inmigrantes y también desempeñó un papel importante en la formación de C.O.S.M.A. un comité salvadoreño, donde trabajó para mantener vivos los valores culturales de su país. En 2002, Lucy fundó LUMA, una organización que se enfoca no sólo en la lucha por los derechos de los inmigrantes, sino también en proveerles programas de desarrollo educativo. Ha financiado programas internacionales, centros recreativos, iglesias y organizaciones sin fines de lucro, donde se realizan talleres con la esperanza de educar a las comunidades sobre los principales riesgos que enfrentan al cruzar la frontera. Lucy es también la fundadora del festival multicultural de Everett, que este año se celebró el séptimo año.
