El alcalde Thomas M. Menino informó a los sobrevivientes y familiares de las víctimas de los atentados del maratón de Boston que el monumento conmemorativo creado espontáneamente en la Plaza Copley será retirado.
En una carta escrita el pasado 17 de junio, el Alcalde Menino dijo que todos artículos entre ellos animales de peluche, zapatos de goma, flores y notas, serán trasladados a los archivos de la ciudad ubicados en West Roxbury. Menino dijo que algunos elementos ya fueron trasladados para evitar un mayor deterioro.
Menino dijo que se formará un Comité conmemorativo para supervisar la creación de un monumento permanente en homenaje a las víctimas y sobrevivientes. También añadió que los sobrevivientes y familiares de las víctimas son bienvenidos a participar en el comité.

“The items at Copley Square will be removed on Tuesday, June 25, for cleaning and archiving at the City of Boston Archives. Many other items, letters and tokens have already been removed to prevent further deterioration. This tremendous outpouring of support can be viewed at the Archives, located at 201 Rivermoor Street in West Roxbury.
Moving forward, a Remembrance Committee will be formed to oversee the creation of a permanent memorial or other means of honoring survivors and victims. Survivors and family members have been notified of these plans and welcomed to serve on the Committee should they wish.
It is our hope that the respectful closing of the temporary memorial will help us all look to the futureâ€
