My childhood is full of memories of the taste of refreshing waters. Some of my favorites were horchata, tamarind, Jamaica (also called hibiscus), lemon and chia. These types of home made drinks are made with water, sugar and flowers, seeds or fruits. They are tasty and healthy and one can control the amount of sugar, if any, that one wants. Their ingredients are also thought to be beneficial. For example, Jamaica flower is considered a mild diuretic and it is eff ective in controlling fever from colds. Its high content of vitamin B1 helps reduce muscle cramps. Tamarind is considered a mild laxative and lemon is high in vitamin C.
