My Farewell…

Dear MIRA members and allies,

I’m writing to inform you today about my departure from the MIRA Coalition. As you can imagine, this has been a very difficult decision to make. I am leaving an outstanding organization with a rich history and a remarkable staff. It’s been an honor and a privilege to be MIRA’s Policy Associate and then Director of Organizing for the past eight years. It’s been an honor also to work with each one of you.

I’m leaving the organization, but not the movement for a more just and humane immigration system. Starting January 14, 2013, I will be joining the state Office for Refugees and Immigrants (ORI) as its Chief of Staff. In addition, I will be working with the Patrick administration to bring the governor’s message to our communities through Ethnic Media.

I am extremely proud of what we have been able to accomplish together. I will be forever thankful to MIRA and to all of you for our work to make sure our communities have a voice in the political system, to refuse to accept divisive legislation, and to promote the incredible contributions that immigrants and refugees make to the United States. My sincere gratitude to MIRA’s staff, board and volunteers, especially my incredible organizing team, for their tireless work and partnership. My last day at MIRA will be on January 11, 2013.

This is not a goodbye but a farewell. In different ways we will continue to work together.

Thank you so very much!

Onwards,

Marcony Almeida, Director of Organizing
