ICA Boston presents Best American and British TV Commercials in December

The Institute of Contemporary Art (ICA) presents two programs featuring the best and funniest in advertising: The Art and Technique of the American Commercial and 2011 British Arrow Awards (formerly Award-Winning British Commercials). Screenings take place in the Barbara Lee Family Foundation Theater. Tickets for each screening are $10 general admission, or $8 for members, students, and seniors. This 20th edition of the AICP’s annual program of award-winning commercials celebrates the collaborative craft involved in the making of small films of persuasion. It honors 26 categories, including visual style, performance, animation, and original music, in the best in advertising of the previous year, as judged by industry peer panels. Over 300 judges from across the country, and a blue ribbon Curatorial Committee comprised of distinguished members of the industry from advertising agencies, production companies, editorial companies, and many others, selected the honored work. This year, commercials for Nike, Volkswagen, Allstate, Levi’s, FedEx, Old Spice and American Express. The AICP Show demonstrates that informing, influencing, and selling may also be moving, surprising, and entertaining. Each year’s selected commercials become part of MoMA’s Film Archives. Join us for an evening that’s much more than an awards show–it’s a celebration of the craft of making these small films of persuasion.

ItÂ’s a feast of astounding stunts, tear-jerking moments, micro-epics, bawdy scenarios, and feel-good spectacles, complete with wit, sauciness, double entendres, and sheer visual beauty.
