On Sunday, November 13, 2011 The Greater Boston Beverage Society will host ShakinÂ’ It Up! at House of Blues, a six-hour gala event including live music, cocktails, hors dÂ’oeuvres, and The Left Bank vs. Right Bank Bartender Competition. ShakinÂ’ it Up! will be the first in a series of cocktail events designed to preview The Boston Cocktail Summit for cocktail enthusiasts from New England and beyond.
ShakinÂ’ It Up! will be an intimate VIP-style gala where attendees will enjoy cocktails, hors dÂ’oeuvres, comedy, live music, and the lively Left Bank vs. Right Bank Bartender Competition. Doors will open to the public at 5 p.m. Later in the evening, Boston and Cambridge bar stars will take the stage to go head-to-head in The Left Bank vs. Right Bank Bartender Competition, a friendly battle to determine which side of the river is home to the Boston-areaÂ’s best bartenders. A variety of live acts will also perform, including comedian Joey Carroll, Prince Tribute Band Lovesexy and the ever energetic Dawg and Poni Show. Guests will also have a chance to bid on silent auction items as they walk the show, sample great cocktails, and enjoy the festivities. ShakinÂ’ it up! is a carnival of the cocktail for enthusiasts and will also serve members of the beverage trade as the official after-party for the New England regional USBG Legacy Cocktail Showcase, sponsored by Bacardi USA. This is a separate event of international scale which will take place in the Foundation Room from 3-6pm. Winners of the USBG Legacy Cocktail Showcase will be announced on the ShakinÂ’ It Up! stage during the event.
ShakinÂ’ It Up! was developed by The Greater Boston Beverage Society (GBBS) to offer cocktail enthusiasts from New England and beyond a preview of whatÂ’s to come at The Boston Cocktail Summit, the first-ever city-wide cocktail event slated for October 4-6, 2012. Part convention, part festival, The Boston Cocktail Summit will be a three-day celebration of Greater BostonÂ’s cocktail culture designed to highlight the cityÂ’s fascinating history of mixology, New EnglandÂ’s breweries, wineries, and distilleries, and raise funds to help local and national charities. All proceeds from ShakinÂ’ It Up! will benefit The Greater Boston Beverage SocietyÂ’s Boston Cocktail Summit initiative.
Established in September, 2011 by local mixologists Alexei Beratis and Jamie Walsh, The Greater Boston Beverage Society is a not-for-profit organization developed to preserve and promote BostonÂ’s cocktail and hospitality culture and spirits history while supporting local and national beverage industry related charities. ShakinÂ’ It Up! will be the GBBSÂ’s first large-scale fundraising event and a preview of whatÂ’s to come for The Boston Cocktail Summit in October 2012.
