Lots of Fun at the 9th annual Opening Our Doors

BOSTON, MA – 15 music events, 12 explorations, 6 art events, 4 dance performances, plus theater, film, and hands-on workshops make up Opening Our Doors, Boston’s largest single day of free arts and cultural events.  On Opening Our Doors, the 22 institutions that make up the Fenway Alliance and 30 community partner organizations welcome neighbors near and far to enjoy an unparalleled array of free activities for everyone – families, couples and individuals.

The day officially kicks off at 10:00 AM at the Christian Science Plaza in Boston, located near the intersection of the Avenue of the Arts (Huntington Ave.) and the Avenue of Music (Mass. Ave.). The Boston Children’s Chorus will lift their voices in song to start this day of celebration of the riches of the Fenway – Boston’s premiere cultural location.

The broad array of activities truly offers something for everyone and includes:

Music – Colleges of the Fenway Jazz Orchestra, The Conservatory Cabaret, Afro-Brazil, students from Project STEP, and an instrument petting zoo at Boston Symphony Orchestra.

Art – Free admission at the Isabella Gardner Museum and the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, gallery shows at Mass Art and Wheelock College, plus hands-on art-making including The Big Draw on Evans Way.

Theater – Ballet Rox and storytelling at Wheelock Family Theater.

Exploration – Open houses at Bristol Studios and the Huntington YMCA, walking tour led by the Emerald Necklace Conservancy, tours of the First Church of Christ Scientist including the world-famous and unique Mapparium at the Mary Baker Eddy Library.

Hands-on activities – Voice & engineering lessons at Bristol Studios, Opera Scenes at the New England Conservatory, acting workshop by Boston Children’s Theatre, sketching and other arts-making at the Gardner Museum and in Evans Way Park.

In the event of rain the Kick-Off celebration will move to the Sunday School Building on the Christian Science Plaza next to Horticultural Hall.
