Celebrate the music of Brazil with Bossa Nova for one night only at The Beehive! On Thursday, September 10, 2009, The Beehive presents Beehive Bossa Nova featuring rhythmic samba music by world-famous performers Joao Marcos and Teresa Ines. While dancing the night away, enjoy Brazilian food and cocktail specials!
The soul of Rio de Janeiro comes alive at 6:30pm with the powerful Bossa Nova sounds of vocalist-guitarist Joao Marcos. Joao Marcos was raised in the rich cultural and musical environment of Brazil. His composing and playing style is the direct result of the diverse musical influences and styles that he absorbed in the region: religious music, freelance vocalists, «Coco» rhythm singers, accordion forro music and folklore that all has a strong Afro-bahian influence. In 2007 Joao was given the «Bizado» Music Award for his dedication to bringing music to the Brazilian community in Boston. Whether Joao is performing solo accompanied only by his guitar, or in a band of musicians, you can always find Bossa Nova, Samba, and Northeastern Brazilian music with a strong jazz influence in his repertoire.
At 9:00pm the great Latin Diva, Teresa Ines, will take the stage. Teresa Ines began her career in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where a rich blend of African and Portuguese-derived styles, such as the earthy, percussive samba and its jazzier, coolly intellectual cousin, bossa nova, are constantly fusing, branching out and evolving. Her songs have heartfelt lyrics and fine harmonies and arrangements.
This evening is perfect for observers and participants. Participants can enjoy «The Caipirinha» – the national cocktail of Brazil made with Cachaa ($10.50) the Sangria Blanco ($10.50) made with Leblon Cachaa and the Sertao Martini made with Cachaca ($10.50). Executive Chef Rebecca Newell will feature Brazilian food specials, available all night!
