As the president of Barajas & Associates, Phyllis Barajas provides human resources support and services to businesses, nonprofits and government agencies. From 1994 through 1999 she served as the Deputy Assistant Secretary in the Office of Elementary, Secondary and Bilingual Education at the U.S. Department of Education in Washington, D.C. Prior to that she was at Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government as the school’s first Latina to serve as an assistant dean for human resources. In the fall of 2005 she created Conexión, a nonprofit that uses mentoring programs and outreach programs to tap the Latino community and develop the next generation of business and nonprofit leaders.
