Universal City.- mun2 (moon-dos) the bilingual cable network for bicultural Latinos 18-34, announced today it will broadcast the October 14th World Cup Qualifier- Mexico vs. Trinidad and Tobago, live and in English language. Play-by-play veteran, Phil Schoen and former defenseman for the U.S. national team, Marcelo Balboa will join mun2 as commentators for the highly-participated match. Coverage of the game will be live coast to coast beginning at 7:55pm Eastern, 4:55pm Pacific.
Taking place in Port of Spain, Trinidad, Mexico vs. Trinidad will be the final match of the World Cup Qualifying for Mexico, who will be trying to secure its positioning in the final qualifying standings for the region. Mexico has only had one victory on the road during the 2009 World Cup Qualifying.
Schoen has been calling soccer games on television for nearly 25 years. He is one of the sports most recognized play-by-play broadcasters and has provided coverage for three World Cup tournaments.
As a player, Balboa made over 130 match appearances and is one of only two players to win U.S Soccer’s Chevrolet Male Athlete of the Year Award twice. Following his career on the field, Balboa served as the top soccer analyst during the 2004 and 2008 Olympics as well as the 2006 World Cup.
Balboa and Schoen joined mun2 as commentators for the World Cup Qualifier Mexico vs. USA in August 2009, which was the network’s first ever live sporting event, and delivered an unprecedented 385,000 total viewers (persons 2 ) and 275,000 adults 18-49, setting a new record for the network and delivering the highest audiences ever for any program on mun2 in this demographic. The sporting event also completed what became the highest rated quarter ever in its history of the network.
Coverage of the game on mun2 will be produced by Deportes Telemundo, exclusively in English for mun2. Guadalupe Venegas, host of mun2’s 18 & Over, will serve as in-studio host. Throughout the broadcast, viewers will get updates on qualifying teams for World Cup 2010 from all regions, including South America and Europe.
