Martha’s Vineyard will be more crowded than usual, come mid-August. It seems the first family will be on Martha’s Vineyard this summer for their vacation. As if Vineyard traffic isn’t bad enough, imagine what it will be like plus a few hundred secret service agents. The Obama family will be gracing MV with its presence from mid-August until a tentative departure day of August 31st. Michelle, Malia and Sasha are set to arrive a few days earlier than the president, on the 16th or 17th. The head honcho will be arriving on the 20th, and though the Obama’s have not chosen a place to stay, they apparently have narrowed it down to three houses. The secret service has booked 70 rooms at the Wesley Hotel in Oak Bluffs, where the presidential party used to stay during Bill Clinton’s visits to the island.
The family has vacationed on the vineyard before, so they pretty much know the ins and outs of the island. They will be there for Illumination Night on August 19th, an event that everyone on the island looks forward to. Sasha and Malia will most definitely go on the famous carousel in Oak Bluffs, and maybe Mr. President will spring for a boogie board or two to ride the shore break at South Beach. Whether the first family chooses to grab a lobster roll at the Seafood Shanty, or just stroll around Edgartown, it is an honor to have them vacationing in the Bay State.
