Don’t miss The Christmas Revels

As always, this year’s Christmas Revels will include the many Revels hallmarks audiences have grown to love over the years. There’ll be holiday carols and rounds for all to sing, lively morris dancing, a seriously funny mummers play, Susan Cooper’s classic poem, The Shortest Day, and Revels’ signature piece, Lord of the Dance, which is guaranteed to have you singing – and dancing – through the aisles!

In addition, this year audiences will embark on a musical exploration into American folk culture in a show featuring Appalachian folksongs and fiddling, rousing African American spirituals, New England Shaker tunes, the Jonkonnu (an African American Christmas celebration with dancing, drumming and disguise costumes), Shape-Note hymns, Native American music and poetry and Wicked John and the Devil, a «Jack tale» dramatized by Susan Cooper.

The Christmas Revels: In Celebration of the Winter Solstice features an extraordinary 80-member ensemble including Appalachian singer and tradition bearer Suzannah Park, Native American musican and storyteller Leon Joseph Littlebird, gospel singer Janice Allen, musicians Eden MacAdam-Somer and Larry Unger, the 32-member Roaring Gap Chorus, The Pinewoods Morris Men, The Smokey Mountain Dancers, Cambridge Symphonic Brass Ensemble, and musician and song leader David Coffin, celebrating his 30th year on the Revels stage. Please join us for this very special holiday celebration!
