In April of 2015, under the appointment of Mayor Martin J. Walsh, Giselle Sterling was selected to serve her fellow veterans as the Commissioner of the Office of Veterans’ Service for the City of Boston. As the first woman and Latina to hold the title of Commissioner, her role as a public servant is to connect Boston’s homeless and low income veterans and their families with the services they have earned. She has also initiated a program that bridges the civilian-military divide through Operation Thank a Vet. Giselle is a graduate of the UMass, Lowell. Prior to her education, Giselle enlisted in the US Marine Corps and she was also trained as a Field Radio Operator. Her deployments sent her to Kandahar, Afghanistan; the Philippines; Guam; Diego Garcia and Okinawa, Japan.
