The Independent Film Festival Boston (IFFBoston) announced the films that will be featured as part of its FALL FOCUS SERIES, a newly formed collaboration with the historic Brattle Theatre in Harvard Sq. Cambridge, MA to highlight a unique selection of the most anticipated films of the coming season. This expansion of IFFBoston’s dedication to year round programming will run from Oct. 25th to 29th.
-“WHERE TO INVADE NEXT”
Written and directed by Michael Moore (BOWLING FOR COLUMBINE and FAHRENHEIT 9/11) will open the IFFBoston FALL FOCUS Series on Sunday, Oct. 25th, 2015 at 7pm. WHERE TO INVADE NEXT is an expansive, rib-tickling, and subversive comedy in which Michael Moore, playing the role of “invader,” visits a host of nations to learn how the U.S. could improve its own prospects. This hilarious, eye-opening call to arms shows the solutions to America’s most entrenched problems already exist in the world, he says—they’re just waiting to be co-opted.
-“ANOMALISA”
Directed by Charlie Kaufman and Duke Johnson will close the FALL FOCUS on Thursday, Oct. 29th at 8:30pm. Based on a play written by Kaufman (BEING JOHN MALKOVICH; ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND), this stop-motion animated drama is voiced by actors David Thewlis, Jennifer Jason Leigh and Tom Noonan.
The rest of the lineup includes:
-“THE INVITATION”
Directed by Karyn Kusama screens on Mon. Oct. 26th at 8:30pm. This taut thriller from the Kusama (GIRLFIGHT; JENNIFER’S BODY) features an ensemble cast including Logan Marshall-Green, Michiel Huisman, Tammy Blanchard and Toby Huss.
-“ENTERTAINMENT”
Directed by Rick Alverson screens on Tues. Oct. 27th at 8pm. Alverson’s (THE COMEDY) existential road movie features a lead performance by Gregg Turkington (known for his alter ego, comedian Neil Hamburger.)
-“THE ASSASSIN”
Directed by Hou Hsiao-hsien screens on Wed. Oct 28th at 7:30pm. This lush historical drama from master filmmaker Hou Hsiao- hsien (FLOWERS OF SHANGHAI; FLIGHT OF THE RED BALLOON) is the official Taiwanese submission for Best Foreign Language Film for the 2016 Academy Awards and Winner of Best Director at the Cannes Film Festival. It was also nominated for 11 Golden Horse (Taiwanese Oscars) Awards including Best Picture.
