Hyde Square Task Force - Mentoring Closing Ceremony

Jamaica Plain - After nearly a year of hard work, the mentors of the Hyde Square Task Force (HSTF) are ready to toast to a monumental success--all of the high school seniors they have worked with this year will be graduating and have been accepted into colleges and universities.

On Sunday, April 18th, mentors and mentees from HSTF's 'College Exploration' mentoring program will gather for an end of the year celebration. The 'College Exploration' program is designed for underclassmen in junior high and high school to begin laying the foundation for college. It is this groundwork that ultimately leads to the success of college-bound seniors.

Mentors are Northeastern students, staff, and community residents, all of whom commit themselves to work with a youth over the course of a year to provide academic support, share real world experience, and create an individualized plan for each youth to prepare for and succeed in college. On Sunday, from 10AM - 12PM, each mentor will be recognized for their tireless efforts at a pancake breakfast at the HSTF Youth Center at 365 Centre Street.

The mentoring services are part of HSTF's Path to College and Careers Program (PCCP,) an initiative developed to cultivate higher ambitions in our community's youth. Mentors forge deep relationships with the youth, serving as positive role models and guides as our youth visit schools, prepare college applications, seek out financial aid opportunities, and begin to envision a brighter future for themselves.

The Hyde Square Task Force (HSTF) is a community based organization that serves over 1000 youth and families each year through diverse arts, cultural, academic, and leadership programming. Our mission is to develop the skills of youth and their families so that they are empowered to enhance their own lives and build a stronger, safer, and more vibrant urban community.
