Boston – The Boston Area Rape Crisis Center (BARCC) is hosting its annual Champions for Change Gala & Auction on Wednesday November 4th, celebrating extraordinary accomplishments in healing, advocacy, and leadership. The event will be held at the Boston Seaport Hotel, located at 1 Seaport Ln, and begin at 6:00 P.M. with a cocktail hour and silent auction.
This special evening will not only honor the 2009 Champion for Change, The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority, but it will celebrate the BARCC volunteers and 2009 winners of the awards for outstanding volunteer services. The evening will be hosted by Kennedy from Mix 104.1.
Nearly a month after Vice President Biden joined forces with national women’s groups to honor the 15th anniversary of legislation aimed at eliminating violence against women in September, it is important to celebrate the strides being made in the Greater Boston community against sexual violence. Not only is BARCC a national leader in this cause, but it is the only rape crisis center in the Greater Boston area providing comprehensive free services, including a 24-hour hotline, 24-medical advocacy, counseling, and legal advocacy.
«Before, we felt that there wasn’t enough awareness about this problem. We want people to know that they can reach out and get support from organizations like BARCC,» said Gina Scaramella, executive director of the BARCC.
This past April, BARCC was awarded the prestigious 2009 National Crime Victim Service Award from the United States Department of Justice. All proceeds of the 2009 Champions for Change Gala will go toward BARCC’s free services for survivors as well as continuing to fight sexual violence.
The Gala is open to the public and tickets are on sale for $150, which are available online, by phone at 617.492.8306, or by email.
