Somerville, Mass., Oct. 17th from 3:30 - 7:30, 2008 -- The following local area businesses are sponsoring the CPCU's, "Passport to Possibilities" second annual member appreciation and 80th event anniversary celebration at St. Anthony's School Hall located directly across from the Somerville branch. This event is free to all members and those who want to support local community businesses and important non-profit organizations in the area.
Credit unions across the country play a vital role in the communities they serve by serving the under banked and helping individuals to become financial literate and to facilitate an improved quality of life. CPCU is no exception. In fact, we have been meeting the needs of people in the Somerville and Cambridge area for 80 years. We offer a different banking environment to folks coming into this country, as most of those who work for us, have come to this country in the last two decades and therefore we can relate to their struggles.
To commemorate our anniversary and to provide our local business partners with an opportunity to showcase their products and services, we are having our second annual membership appreciation day on October 17th from 3:30pm to 7:30pm at 493 Somerville Ave. Somerville.
This is an opportunity to meet some of our partners, board of directors, credit union members, and wonderful staff. It will be an afternoon full of festivities with great Portuguese and Brazilian food from local restaurants and music. With face painting and a bounce house there is sure to be fun for all ages.
To celebrate CPCU's 80 years of service we will have a cake cutting ceremony at 5:00 PM with a toast, followed by a cocktail reception and networking opportunity to meet the local business owners and credit union members who drive our local economy. Attendees will get to know area retailers, receive coupons and gift certificates to their favorite shops and restaurants, and enjoy cuisine from neighborhood eateries.
In addition, the second annual "Share the Warmth" coat drive spearheaded by CPCU is this October in conjunction with their HEAT Loan campaign. "We wanted to inform our membership and the community about the MASSSAVE HEAT LOAN PROGRAM, available thru our credit union. This INTEREST FREE home improvement loan, is all about energy efficiency," says CEO, Rui Domingos. The program is legislated by the state, to help residents reduce energy use and combat the high costs of energy consumption.
"If someone wants to upgrade their furnace, windows or insulation, they can INTEREST FREE," according to Valerie Hetzel, Marketing Manager of CPCU Credit Union. "And the best part of the program is the FREE energy audit (and follow up after the improvements are in place) performed by your local utility company to pin point where your can save energy in your home."
And finally we are pleased this year to include the Children's Hospitals Blood Mobile to our day of festivities. They will be at the Somerville branch collecting blood from members, staff and event goers. Collection will take place from 1pm to 7pm on October 17th. For more information or to set up an appointment to give blood, please call Valerie Hetzel at 617.913.3472
Please support the Somerville Homeless Coalition, Children's Hospital Blood Mobile, the fine businesses listed above, and come find out why more people in today's market are joining credit unions.
